Backcountry Exploration: What You Need to Know

Much of the backcountry in Port Alberni is accessed via logging roads created and/or maintained by private logging companies who have leased the land from the Province of BC. Road conditions can vary widely, cellphone service may not be available, vehicles must yield to oncoming logging trucks and some roads have restricted access and gates.

Be prepared! Tell someone where you are going and when you intend to return and bring ample survival supplies such as water and food, warm clothing, a first aid kit, a flashlight and automotive repair equipment.
