Cultural Organizations & Societies
Abashiri-Japan Twinning Society: Abashiri has Port Alberni's Sister City since 1986. The Twinning Society coordinates student and adult education and cultural exchanges and promotes goodwill between the two communities. Visit City Hall to see a display of some of the cultural gifts received. Contact the Society to inquire about travelling or being a host family.
LGBTQ2+ Community
The Alberni Pride Society is a place to socialize, network, and get to know the Alberni Valley. Society members can advise entrepreneurs regarding best practices when it comes to recruitment and creating a safe, inclusive work environment. Local production company RCN Media produces Queer View Mirror: A TV show by Queer people, for Queer people and allies.
Port Alberni Friendship Centre
The Port Alberni Friendship Center was established in 1966 and provides services and a drop-in atmosphere to Urban Aboriginals. Those services include counseling, recreation programs, youth employment training program, Outreach Legal Advocacy Program, some public health services, social events, crafts and cultural events.
